Dental implant FAQs
A dental implant is a small, titanium screw that is used to replace the root section of a missing tooth. It is fitted directly to the jawbone to provide a strong and secure foundation for the visible part of the new replacement tooth (the crown) to be attached to.
This gives a very natural-looking result that functions and feels like the rest of your teeth. Dental implants can be used to secure one, several or a full set of artificial teeth.
Depending on the complexity of the case and the treatment required, the length of the process can range from one day (teeth in a day) to several months.
After the initial consultation, an appointment is made for the placing of the implant into the jawbone. This is then allowed to settle and firmly embed for a period of time, before the replacement tooth is fixed on top of the post.
The result is a dental solution that is all-but-invisible to the naked eye and even more hard-wearing than the original tooth.
With proper care, dental implants can last 15–25 years or longer. Success depends on oral hygiene, lifestyle, and regular dental visits.
The procedure is typically done under local anesthetic. Discomfort afterward is usually mild and manageable with over-the-counter painkillers.
Brush and floss as usual, avoid smoking, and visit your dentist regularly for cleaning and check-ups.
